There are so many fantastic local businesses in our community that make it a great place to live. As I was considering which business to feature first in my new local business review series, I kept coming back to one that has been a big part of my own journey – Hanks Realty Group. With all the incredible things we have going on, I thought, why not make my own real estate team the first review?

Meet Matthew Hanks

I first met Matthew Hanks at a business conference, and we later connected over coffee at Floyd & Blackie’s. As we got to know each other, we discovered an interesting small-world connection – his childhood best friend is my cousin! Over time, we became friends, and eventually, I joined Hanks Realty Group as a real estate agent. Now, almost three years in, I can confidently say that this is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my real estate career.

Matthew is a South Point High School graduate who has deep roots in the Gaston County area. He attended elementary and junior high school locally before graduating from Belmont Abbey College. After a brief time away, he returned home and has been serving the community ever since. His passion for real estate and dedication to helping clients find success in buying and selling homes make him a standout professional in the field.

A Journey into Real Estate

Matthew’s journey into real estate was fueled by a desire for career flexibility and a passion for working with people. After college, he had a job opportunity that took him out of the area, but he always wanted to come back home. Real estate provided the perfect path for him to do just that. The variety of the job, from working with clients to negotiating deals and marketing properties, was a great fit for him.

One of the things that sets Matthew apart is his resilience. He has navigated shifting markets, economic downturns, and the evolving real estate landscape with adaptability and perseverance. A great example of this was in 2008, when the market crashed. Instead of giving up on real estate entirely, he stepped away temporarily to serve in the military. He joined the National Guard, went through Officer Candidate School, and eventually became a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the Army. His eight years of service speak volumes about his dedication, discipline, and leadership – qualities that serve him well in real estate today.

The Birth of Hanks Realty Group

After completing his military service, Matthew returned to the real estate industry and launched Hanks Realty Group about seven years ago. Over the years, the team has evolved, sometimes growing larger and at other times operating in a more streamlined way. However, one thing has remained constant – the commitment to delivering exceptional service to clients.
