Local Business Spotlight: Lineberger’s Automotive in Gastonia

Hey guys, Craig Graves here—real estate broker with Hanks Realty Group in Gastonia.

One of the most common questions I get asked is, “Who’s a good mechanic around here?” Folks want someone honest, dependable, fairly priced, and someone who does the job right. That’s exactly why I sat down with Chris Lineberger of Lineberger’s Automotive, located at 4560 South New Hope Road in Gastonia.

Chris and his team are exactly the kind of people you want working on your car—and I’ve been bringing my own vehicles to them for a couple of years now. In our interview, I got to learn more about Chris, his story, his business, and the heart behind what he does.

Meet Chris Lineberger

Chris grew up in the Gastonia–Belmont area and has been in the automotive industry for nearly 30 years. He’s done everything from owning independent dealerships to managing franchise locations. During the pandemic, while many people were stepping back, Chris took a bold leap and opened Lineberger’s Automotive—committed to treating people like family and offering honest, essential service.

What Sets Lineberger’s Automotive Apart?

According to Chris, it all comes down to integrity. He tells his team, “If a customer comes in for brakes and doesn’t actually need them, don’t install them.” That philosophy is lived out every day. I’ve personally saved money by bringing my car to Chris—more than once.

He also makes it a priority to create a positive work culture. Each morning, the team gathers for a short devotional before the shop opens. Every employee is invited to participate, and Chris says it sets the tone for the day. The team is full of friendly, respectful people, and the vibe in the shop reflects that.

Common Car Mistakes & Smart Advice

Chris shared that neglecting regular maintenance is one of the biggest mistakes car owners make. Things like oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections really do matter—and skipping them ends up costing more in the long run.

His best advice for anyone looking for a good mechanic?

Just call 704-829-3557. Lineberger’s has four reliable technicians on staff Monday through Friday—and they work on all makes and models.

Giving Back to the Community

Chris is a faith-driven business owner who actively supports the local

community. From volunteering with the homeless to offering donated labor for those in need, he believes in giving back. His commitment to customer service is simple: “We’re not happy until the customer is happy.”

And Then There’s Diesel…

No visit to Lineberger’s Automotive would be complete without meeting Diesel, the shop’s mascot. Diesel is a rescue dog Chris adopted on a whim—and now he greets customers at the door and walks them to the entrance like he owns the place (he kind of does). Some customers even bring him treats and steaks!
