Matthew Hanks combines deep local expertise with over 20 years of real estate experience. Since launching his career in 2003, he has helped hundreds of families buy, sell, and invest across the Greater Gaston area — always with a focus on making not just a move, but a meaningful step forward.

Known for his strategic mindset, strong negotiation skills, and commitment to smooth, efficient closings, Matthew is passionate about helping clients get the most out of every transaction. He holds every major certification in residential real estate, including GRI (Graduate, Realtor® Institute), ABR® (Accredited Buyer Representative®), e-Pro, and the prestigious CRS® (Certified Residential Specialist®) — a designation held by less than 3% of Realtors nationwide.

In addition to running a full-service real estate team, Matthew is also an experienced short-term vacation rental owner. He and his family own and manage a beachfront condo at Ocean Isle Beach, giving him firsthand knowledge of the vacation rental market and what it takes to maximize returns while delivering great guest experiences.

Among Matthew’s achievements in the realm of real estate are eXp Realty ICON (x5!), Broker-In-Charge and Instructor designations by the NC Real Estate Commission, and certified Business Coach previously with the Tom Ferry organization.

Matthew grew up in McAdenville, Gaston County's Christmas Town U.S.A. He is a proud product of Gaston County schools and has great memories of his school days in McAdenville, Cramerton, and Belmont. Matthew holds a Bachelors in Business Administration from Belmont Abbey College.

In addition to his real estate career, Matthew was a Citizen Soldier with the N.C. National Guard. Captain Hanks earned his commission at the North Carolina Military Academy Officer Candidacy School at Fort Bragg and then graduated from U.S. Army flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Matthew lives in Gastonia with his wife and business partner, Susan, and their three children: Gabe, Anna, and Jonah. The family is active at Central Church in Charlotte.

Matthew also loves being a coach. Since 2015, he’s coached youth soccer through High5 Sports at City Church, and in 2023, he began coaching golf at Piedmont Community Charter School. Whether it’s on the field, the course, or in a real estate transaction, he thrives on helping others grow and succeed.

Fun fact: Matthew and Susan were both Class of '95 at South Point High School in Belmont — though their paths didn’t cross much until reconnecting a decade later at their class reunion at Belmont Abbey College. They were married in Gastonia in 2007.
