Packing Tips from the Worst and Best Packer

(yes, all in one— that’s me!)

We are in the dog days of summer and have just sent our eldest to his last stayaway camp for the summer! This time it is golf camp near Pinehurst! Should be awesome — and HOT!!

Feels a lot like all we have done this summer is pack and unpack! We alternated weeks at the beach (to finish up decorating and preparing the condo for our renters) and at home for the first six weeks of summer! I just left my suitcase in the floor of my closet half packed for our next trip. 😆

I grossly overpacked for those weeks at the beach, as I have found that Ocean Isle is uber relaxed! Most visitors to the island stay in swimsuits all day or in workout clothes from their morning beach runs or walks! I could have gotten by with about half the clothes I toted back and forth!

I must say the packing lists for the kids’ camps made me a much better packer!

It’s good to know what you have to prepare for and plan ahead on packing.

Making a list of events or activities you are looking forward to and then enumerating the actual pairs of shorts, tops, dresses, and the like would help on vacation too! Sounds a little too organized for my style of vacay prepping, but I really believe it is the best way not to overpack! Also, Anna used her packing list at the end of camp to make sure she wasn’t forgetting anything! Packing list pulling double duty!! 🙌🏻

Hyper-prep worked for us last year when we took a (both sides of the family) cruise on Spring break! With the kids all over the ship and not being able to communicate as readily, I literally made a letter and number system to coordinate our outfits and bagged/labeled them for our nighttime activities. 😆 So while chilling by the pool or finishing up swimming with dolphins, I could say “Ok guys, wear outfit 2A for tonight!” to my 5 and voila! We were beautifully coordinated when we later arrived at the dining room. 🥰

So what’s your packing style? What has worked or not worked for you all? Perhaps you have one more getaway before Summer ends! Show and tell us all your successful packing tactics! And happy packing!
